India-bound VW Tiguan - Geneva Motor Show Live

First VW Group SUV to be based on the MQB platform.

The VW Tiguan is being showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is the first SUV in the Volkswagen Group to be underpinned by the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, and has been confirmed for the Indian market.

The second generation Tiguan features a completely reconfigured design. It is longer, wider and lower compared to its predecessor and is offered with two front sections - a classic on-road version and an off-road avatar with suitable front end characteristics in each. The interior is expanded, providing more room at the back and an increased boot space that is larger by 145 litres, measuring between 615 and 1,655 litres.

The new Tiguan will be offered with a choice of eight engines, six of which will be provided with All-Wheel Drive configuration. The engines have a larger power output band, ranging between 115 PS (85 KW) and 240 PS (176 KW). Both engines, the 2.0-litre TDI (diesel) and the 2.0-litre TSI (petrol), are supercharged and have direct injection systems. On the engines that produce 180 PS and above, the default transmission is a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox - automatic). The model is equipped with 4MOTION Active Control which offers four driving modes - On-Road, Snow, Off-Road and Off-Road Individual.

The standard safety systems on the European spec Tiguan include Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and active engine bonnet. The new version will be launched in Germany in April 2016 and will be available throughout Europe in early May.
