VW Tiguan updated on VW India's website
Deliveries to commence in May.
Volkswagen has updated its official website with an image of the new VW Tiguan. Last week VW announced that it has started production of the VW Tiguan in India. The compact SUV is built in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
Arriving as the first MQB platform-based Volkswagen model in India, the second generation VW Tiguan measures 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 2,095 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,677 mm. India will get it in the 5-seat version which offers a luggage space of 615 litres with rear seats up/1,655 mm litres with rear seats folded.
Volkswagen India has confirmed that the Tiguan will get a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine paired to the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre diesel engine will reportedly produce 177 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Like the model shown at Auto Expo 2016, the model hitting the market will have an all-wheel-drive system. The 1.4-litre TSI unit was expected to form an option for those preferring a petrol engine, but from Volkswagen India's release, it seems that the Tiguan won't have a petrol option at launch.

The VW Tiguan's bookings will open in April and first units will reach the showrooms in May. Class-wise, the VW Tiguan competes with the Hyundai Tucson, but it's expected to have a much higher starting pricing at around INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
