VW unveils the production version of Polo R WRC
The VW Polo R WRC joins an impressive lineup of hot hatches from the Wolfsburg based car maker.
The Polo R WRc'S road going version is inspired by the Polo R WRC racer which is all set to make its first rally debut in the 2013 season of WRC. The production version of the car was previewed by the Polo R WRC Street concept in May this year and is the most powerful Polo yet.
The hot hatch uses 2.0 litre TSI direct injection petrol engine which has 217 horses at its disposal. The engine generates an impressive torque of 350 Nm. The same motor is shared by the new Golf GTi as well.
The Polo R WRC tips the scale at 1,324 kg and that too with a driver (68 kg), luggage (7 kg) and 90% fuel on board. The transmission duty is handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox with short gear ratios which enables the car to hit 100 kmph from rest in just 6.4 seconds before going all out at 242 kmph.
The 18" alloy wheels come shod with 215/35 low profile rubber. Polo R WRC can stretch up to 13.4 km per litre of fuel while emitting 174 grams of CO2. The cars sports aggressive front fascia with LED DRLs integrated into the headlamps.
Only 2,500 units are planned and the booking starts this month. However the delivery commences only in September 2013.
The VW Polo R WRC is priced at € 33,900 (around Rs. 23.84 lakhs). Should we even mention that VW will never try to sell it in India?
