Merely cosmetic changes are expected in this facelift.

VW India is working on a facelift for the Vento sedan, reports IndianCarsBikes. The Vento was indeed updated in September 2014, but that was merely a model year change which saw inclusion of the 1.5 TDI engine. The upcoming facelift will see sheet metal changes, and a launch is expected in June, states the website.

The updated Vento came with new headlights, alloy wheels and a new body color.

The Vento will complete its half-a-decade in India come July 2015. However, since its launch, the overall design has remained the same. A first update came in 2012 which saw the Vento receive blackened headlights clusters and a new music system.

Post that, VW India has introduced countless special editions on the car to spur sales, but numbers have been hard to come by. Despite being the most produced car at VW India's Chakan plant, the Vento's average monthly sales account for only 1,056 units whereas its main rival, the City, sells more than 6 times this number.

According to the report, the first prototypes of the refreshed Vento have already started testing, though changes are only skin deep. The sedan will continue to be offered with a 1.6-liter petrol engine, a 1.2-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine exclusively available with a 7-speed DSG, and a 1.5-liter diesel available with manual and DSG transmissions.

VW offers its 7-speed DSG on the petrol and diesel variants of the car.

What VW India has cleverly managed is to export cars like the Vento and Polo to over 32 countries. Last year, one in two cars made at the Chakan plant was exported.
