Brazilian journalist Fernando Calmon has released a teaser of the VW Virtus, giving a glimpse of the car’s profile. Also, Pablo Di Si, the new President and CEO of VW Region South America and Brazil, has revealed that the VW Virtus reach the market in January 2018.

VW Virtus profile teaser
Volkswagen will offer the VW Virtus with two engine options: 1.6-litre MSI four-cylinder and 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder.

The VW Virtus is the second product from Volkswagen to utilise the MQB A0 platform after the VW Polo. Later, the VW T-Cross small SUV and a Fiat Toro rivalling pickup based on this platform will follow. Back to the Virtus, the sixth-gen Polo’s sedan version's exterior and interior have already leaked in spy shots.

The VW Virtus looks more premium and elegant compared to the VW Vento, its current equivalent. It has a smoothly sloping D-pillar and a higher set boot-lid, which allows the large back glass to bridge the gap between the roof and tail cohesively. The Audi A4-esque wraparound tail lamps cover much of the corners, while full-width chrome garnish complements the distinctive rear bumper. The interior, obviously, is lifted up from the hatchback it’s based on. However, Volkswagen could plan different trim and upholstery in the sedan.

The VW Virtus will reportedly have a wheelbase of 2.60 metres and a boot space of around 500 litres. Volkswagen will offer it with two engine options: 1.6-litre MSI four-cylinder and 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder. The MSI engine will develop up to 117 cv (117 hp) and up to 16.5 kgf.m (161.81 Nm) of torque. The TSI engine will produce up to 128 cv (128 hp) and 20.4 kgf.m (200.06 Nm) of torque. The 1.6L engine model will have a 5-speed manual transmission, and the 1.0L engine model will have a 6-speed automatic transmission.
