The 04X will be the Japanese two-wheeler maker's first 125 cc scooter in India. Relatively new to the Indian scooter segment, Yamaha has three offerings - Ray, Ray Z and Alpha - all employing the same 113 cc engine.

Yamaha has recently announced a new 125 cc automatic scooter for Vietnam called Nozza Grande. The scooter which is scheduled to be launched in Vietnam in August is powered by a 125 cc fuel-injected engine which promises to deliver a fuel economy of 54 km/l.

The India-spec 125 cc scooter is expected to be based on the Vietnam-spec Yamaha Nozza Grande's platform.

While the fuel injection technology is doubtful, the India-bound 125 cc automatic scooter is expected to be based on the Nozza Grande's platform, considering both the products have Asian habitats.

Yamaha India is reportedly planning to produce 120,000 units of the new 125 cc scooter per year. The Indian scooter market in general contributed to 25% of the nation's overall two-wheeler market in 2013 and is registering a rapid growth. The 125 cc segment in particular appears to have an untapped potential.

Expected Price: INR 55,000 - 65,000, ex-showroom (depending on whether the engine is fuel-injected or carbureted).
