2013 Tokyo Motor Show Live - Yamaha EVINO, EKIDS, YPJ01
Yamaha's long lineup of electric two-wheeler prototypes at the Tokyo Motor Show includes the Yamaha EVINO, Yamaha EKIDS and the Yamaha YPJ01.
Yamaha EVINO and Yamaha EKIDS
The EVINO (e-Vino) and EKIDS prototypes are driven by the same DC brushless motor that draws power from a removable lithium-ion battery, which can be charged independently. The EVINO also uses regenerative braking to charge the battery on the move.
The EKIDS is powered by a modularized variant of the EVINO's powertrain, while the controller unit is reprogrammed for easy use. This makes the EKIDS suitable for learners.
The EVINO is designed for short-distance trips, and is a lower price range model. As it is based on the Vino, it gets a retro-pop styling and an optimized front-rear weight balance. It measures 1,675 mm × 645 mm × 1,005 mm (Length x Width x Height)
The EKIDS is designed for learners and since it doesn't use oil or gasoline, it is suitable for indoor application as well. It measures 1,245 mm × 575 mm × 715 mm (Length x Width x Height).
Yamaha YPJ01
2013 marks Yamaha's 20th anniversary of making power assisted bicycles. The YPJ01 is a concept conceived to look 20 years into the future. The keywords of this bicycle are “stylish,” “ecological,” “healthy” and “enjoyable.”
The sleek frame is combined with a lightweight drive unit and battery and the rider's smartphone can be paired to the bicycle to make the ride more enjoyable.
The 22-speed YPJ01 measures 1,700 mm × 430 mm × 1,050 mm (Length × Width × Height) and is powered by a 250W motor that gets its juice from a Lithium Ion battery.
