Yamaha MT-125 to debut on 16 October; India launch unlikely

Yamaha has teased its upcoming MT family product, the MT-125, which will be revealed to the world on 16 October. The 125 cc motorcycle will be available in select international markets while the Indian launch is not likely to happen.

Yamaha Motor UK has released a teaser image of an upcoming motorcycle that will be part of the 2020 line-up.

The teaser image was published by Yamaha UK on its Twitter handle. The company will also give away one unit of the upcoming motorcycle. Yamaha Motor UK’s website states:

Yamaha Motor UK is delighted to offer a brand new, 2020 model as a prize for this year’s Motorcycle Live giveaway. In fact, the bike is so new, we can’t even tell you what it is yet! Set to be confirmed in the coming weeks, this exciting new model will be on display on Yamaha’s stand in Hall 2 at Motorcycle Live alongside their range of 2020 bikes, including the all new YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M, which has already been unveiled.

Yamaha offers the YZF-R125 in the UK market. Thus, it would be safe to assume that the motorcycle in the teaser photograph is the new MT-125. While the teaser image does not reveal many details, it does give a glimpse of the MT-15 inspired front fascia that features LED DRLs and a LED projector headlight. The UK-bound MT-125 will be based on the YZF-R125. Thus, the naked roadster will share its underpinnings and engine with its full-faired sibling.

Mechanical specifications will include a 124.7 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, SOHC motor that, in Euro-IV guise, generates 15 PS of peak power at 9,000 rpm and 11.5 Nm of maximum torque at 8,000 rpm. The MT-125 will most likely feature a Euro-V motor. The engine will be linked to a six-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.

Premium hardware specifications will bring the famed Deltabox frame and aluminium swingarm to the package. Suspension department, similar to the UK-spec YZF-R125, will comprise 41 mm inverted front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking setup will include a 292 mm front and 230 mm rear disc. The tyre configuration, too, will most likely be shared with the YZF-R125, as the MT-125 may retain the wide, 140-section unit at the back.
