India-spec Yamaha MT-15 ABS engine details & dimensions leaked
The engine specifications, dimensions and other details of the India-spec Yamaha MT-15 have been leaked through a ‘Type Approval’ certification document that IAB has got its hands on.
According to the ‘Type Approval Certificate’, registered with the CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules), the India-spec Yamaha MT-15 will be powered by a BS-IV compliant 155.1, SOHC, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine that will be shared with the Yamaha R15 V3.0. The motor features VVA (variable valve actuation) and will produce 19.05 bhp (14.2 kW) of maximum power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm, and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox with standard slipper clutch.
The certification document further reveals the updated dimensions of the India-spec Yamaha MT-15. The motorcycle measures at 2,020 mm in length, 800 mm in width, 1,070 mm in height and a wheelbase of 1,335 mm along with a GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of 288 kg. In comparison, the Thai-spec MT-15 is 1965 mm in length and 1065 mm in height.
The Yamaha MT-15 was leaked via dealer presentation clip earlier last week. The India-spec MT-15 will feature telescopic front forks in place of the USD units a Yamaha R15 V3.0 sourced alloy wheels and MRF tubeless tyres. Another change is the box-type swingarm that replaces the aluminium unit on the global model. The move is taken to keep the costs low, something that the company also did with the India-spec YZF-R15 V3.0.
The India-spec Yamaha MT-15 will be underpinned by a Deltabox frame, which should offer a balance between ride and handling. The 2019 MT-15 features an updated design with the new bug-eyed LED headlamp, muscular fuel tank with tank shrouds and a lowered tail section. The MT-15 is equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster.
