Report - Yamaha MT-25 based on R25 to enter production next year
Would be made alongside its trackbred sibling in Indonesia.
Visordown reports that, according to a leaked internal document from Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), a new motorcycle codenamed MTN-250 is slated to enter production in the country next year.
Speculations are rife about the existence of a naked version of the Yamaha YZF-R25 and the emergence of a codename seems to be the first evidence. The bike could be called as the MT-25 or even as the MT-250 since the smallest MT model goes by the name MT-125.
Little else is known about the mystery model but the logical way for Yamaha is to give it the unmistakable MT family look and make use of the R25's chassis and running gear. Now that Yamaha has unveiled the R3 which is very closely related to the R25, rumors about a possible MT-3 (or MT-320) has also started doing rounds.
The MT-25, if produced, is likely to be powered by the R25's 250 cc parallel-twin engine which produces 36 PS (35.28 bhp) at 12,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. The transmission will be a 6-speed unit.

Unlike its track-oriented sibling, the Yamaha MT-25 would be offering an upright riding position which is typical of a street fighter. The motorcycle will rival the likes of Kawasaki Z250 and KTM Duke 390 in the international markets but is too early to speculate about its entry into India.
