Yamaha R15 v3.0 Indian launch still afar - Report
The Yamaha R15 v2.0 at present has a sales volume of 3,000-4,000 units.
The Yamaha R15 v3.0 was first unveiled in Indonesia in January 2017. Photos of the faired sportsbike have been seen on the web which are claimed to have been clicked from a Yamaha dealership in Hyderabad. However, Yamaha India is yet to reveal its launch plans and BikeAdvice reports that an Indian launch may not be happening anytime soon.
Mr Roy Kurian, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Yamaha India, had in an interview to Powerdrift in February hinted that the new R15 will take time. He had said:
We launch around 250 models worldwide every year. It doesn’t mean we have to bring all the bikes to India. Right now…we will follow a countrywide strategy. We have R15, R15-S…. Now we do not know… if there is a requirement we will think about that bike in our market… but right now…lets see…
Features like upside down fork up front, LED headlamp and slipper clutch and the new 155.1 VVA engine are expensive which will add to the cost of the motorcycle. The BSIV compliant Yamaha R15 v2.0 retails at INR 118,903 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
So, while images of matte red Yamaha R15 v3.0 are floating on the Indian web, the bike is unlikely to be launched in India in the near future.

Yamaha India is certainly exploring the Fazer 250 variant which will be the semi-faired version of the Yamaha FZ25 launched in February 2017.
