Retro-styled Yamaha XSR155 to launch in Indonesia by Nov 2019

Retro motorcycles form a good chunk of sales in the European market. Yamaha wants to replicate this success in Asia with a new retro-styled small capacity motorcycle. Indonesian site GreatBiker claims that this bike will be called Yamaha XSR155. This nomenclature is inline with the XSR 900 and XSR 700 models that retail in Europe.

The new motorcycle will carry forward the design language seen in the Yamaha XSR900 pictured here.

Yamaha calls the XSR line-up as the Sports Heritage range, which offers the best of sporty riding in a package that reminds you of the bikes of yore. Competing against the Honda CB 150R retailed in Indonesia, the Yamaha XSR155 is expected to use the same 155cc mill that powers the R15 v3.0. In its present tune, the engine produces 19.3 PS and 14.7 Nm.

The gearbox will continue to be a 6-speed unit and will be assisted by a slipper clutch. The Indonesian version of Yamaha XSR155 is expected to feature upside down forks in the front. The rear will be a monoshock. However, the engineers at Yamaha might use the Deltabox frame instead of a trellis unit. This will keep development costs under check. That being said, if the XSR155 is brought to India at a later stage, it is likely to get regular telescopic forks.

Other than that, the Yamaha XSR155 is expected to get a retro-styled look with a rounded headlamp. Even the instrumentation unit would be a circular unit as seen in the bigger XSR range. The Yamaha XSR155 is expected to be launched in Indonesia by November 2019.

The Yamaha XSR155 may not carry a trellis frame as seen in the XSR700 pictured here.

Back home, Yamaha India has stopped sales of the Yamaha R15S. The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese motorcycle maker is even expected to be gearing up to launch the updated Yamaha R3. The twin cylinder bike gets a new design language with an upside down fork up front. Besides, the new R3 also features all-digital instrumentation.
