The Yamaha XTZ 125 is unlikely to be launched in India. The company could consider the Yamaha FZ25 based XTZ 250 Lander in the country, if venturing into the dual-purpose segment is a serious idea.

The Yamaha XTZ 125 is an entry-level dual-purpose bike that is on sale in markets like Cambodia, Philippines and Ecuador among others. The test mule is in a black paint scheme along with red and silver graphics. In the international markets, the XTZ 125 is also available in blue paint scheme with white decals.

Looking at the registration plate of the mule, it could be a case of a company like Bajaj Auto testing the XTZ 125 for benchmarking purposes.

If the bike belongs to Yamaha, then it could only be similar to the Nozza Grande scooter, which was also undergoing tests in India but never launched. Moreover, introducing the Yamaha XTZ 125 near the cut-throat prices of the 125cc segment bikes will be an impossible task for the Japanese bike maker which is vocal about shifting focus to the premium segments.

While the Yamaha XTZ 125 is unlikely to be launched in India, the company does market the XTZ 250 Lander in the Brazilian market. The Yamaha XTZ 250 uses the same engine that powers the India-spec Yamaha FZ25. The XTZ 250 could sure make for a better dual-sport motorcycle in the Indian market and a direct rival to the upcoming Hero XPulse 200.

Powering the Yamaha XTZ 125 is a 124cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC engine that is capable of churning out 12.5 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 11.6 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The motorcycle has a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres.

Coming to the specifications, the Yamaha XTZ 125 has a kerb weight of 118 kg. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels that are wrapped with knobby off-road tyres. It measures 2,090 mm in length, 830 mm in width and 1,115 mm in height, has a ground clearance of 260 mm and a saddle height of 840 mm. While it has compact dimensions, the tall seat height will sure be uncomfortable for the average Indian consumer.
