Honda is currently working on the tenth generation of the Civic, which in all likelihood will be unveiled late this year. At the 2015 New York Auto Show this month, Honda previewed its design in the form of a bright green Honda Civic Concept.

Early this morning, the first patent sketches of the car were leaked online, and though not as aggressive, it is inspired by the concept model. The next iteration will be based on a shortened version of the current Accord's platform, and will be slightly longer than the outgoing model, say reports.

It will feature a new “Flying H” grille design flanked by optional LED headlamps and an updated lower fascia design. The rear-end will embrace a redesigned set of tail-lamps, similar to the ones in the Civic Concept.

The next Civic will feature an engine lineup that includes a new 1.5-liter “Earth Dreams VTEC Turbo” engine with direct injection. It will come paired to a short-shifting 6-speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Some of the expected features include Lane Departure Warning, Multi-Angle rear view camera and Adaptive cruise control.

According to reports, the North American market will be the first to receive the new Civic later this year, followed by Asian markets in 2016. It will be offered in various body styles: sedan, coupe and 5-door hatchback, as well as sporty variants such as the Si and Type-R.

Honda Cars India discontinued the Civic after the eighth generation due to the absence of diesel tech for the car and a shrinking D-Segment pie for sedans. There is no hint from the company if the Civic will be re-introduced with the tenth generation.
