2017 Honda Civic Type R concept revealed ahead of 2016 Paris Motor Show

Confirmed for a launch next year.

At the 2016 Paris Motor Show which starts for the media today, Honda will showcase the next-generation 2017 Honda Civic Type R, previewing it as a pre-production concept. Though the current Honda Civic Type R was launched in Europe and UK (and its exclusive to Europe and UK) only last year, the next-gen Civic Type R based on the new Civic hatchback will be introduced in the second half of 2017, Honda confirmed in a statement.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R is expected to be powered by a modified version of the current Type R's 2.0-liter engine.

It will be produced at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) in Swindon – the global manufacturing hub for the five-door hatchback, and will be exported to markets around the world, including North America. This will be the first time any Honda-badged Type R has been 'officially' sold in North America.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R gets wide, aggressive bumpers, extended wheel arches and a large rear wing, on a body finished in a bespoke ‘brushed aluminium’ and highly reflective wrap. The changes to the exterior, which the company says aids in aerodynamic performance, include a winged carbon fibre splitter, slatted ducts in the bumper and diamond-mesh inserts in the sculpted air intakes.

There's also a new air vent at the nose of the car, coupled with a new intake on the bonnet, with an air scoop, smoked lenses for the LED headlights, carbon fibre side skirts, 20-inch piano black alloy wheels with red accents and 245-section high-performance tyres. Finally, at the rear, the 2017 Civic Type R prototype gets a carbon fibre diffuser and three tailpipes with the central tailpipe in a smaller diameter.
