2017 Honda Civic Si won't come with CVT either.

As Honda continues working on the extension of the tenth-gen Honda Civic range with the Si and R variants, new details have emerged on their launch plan. According to a report from Car And Driver, the 2018 Honda Civic Type-R will be launched exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2018 Honda Civic Type-R is said to be powered by a 340 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Honda Civic Type-R Prototype pictured.

Speaking to the American publication, Sage Marie, Senior Manager, Automobile PR at American Honda Company Co., said: "Si and Type R are the Civics most aimed at the purist driver and maximum engagement." This is an indirect confirmation that the 2017 Honda Civic Si, which was announced with a short-shifting 6-speed manual transmission in November, won't have an option for CVT.

The 2018 Honda Civic Type-R will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The current Civic Type-R's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is tuned to produce 306 hp. The next-gen Type-R's engine will be a lot more powerful, with rumours placing it at 340 hp. The all-new Honda Civic Type-R will be a FWD vehicle, and an all-wheel drive system won't be available unlike its close competitor, the VW Golf R.

The 2018 Honda Civic Type-R will have a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, which will send power to the front wheels.
