Renault Kwid gains new infotainment system and more safety features

First launched in September 2014, the Renault Kwid has successfully managed to establish a firm foothold on the entry-level car market of India (avg. monthly sale from July-December 2018 - 5,562 units). The entry-level car has been quite regular with receiving minor updates and special editions, and now, it has now been upgraded with a handful of additional features for MY2019. Prices of the 2019 Renault Kwid range from INR 2.67-4.63 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Visually, the 2019 Renault Kwid remains the same as its predecessor. Moreover, its prices have remained unaffected even on the introduction of additional features.

The 2019 Renault Kwid features ABS across all trims, while a driver-side airbag, which was earlier available exclusively on the RXT(O) and Climber trims, is standard now. Additionally, the new model features front and rear SBR, ELR seatbelts on front and rear seats, reverse parking sensors and high-speed alert as a part of the standard equipment list. With this, the entry-level small car is now ready to embrace the more stringent safety norms that come into effect on 1 October 2019.

Furthermore, the MediaNAV touchscreen infotainment system that has been available in the RXT(O) and Climber trims has been replaced with the new MediaNAV Evolution unit that offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The AMT variants finally get a crawl feature, which has been named as 'traffic assist'.

Currently, it isn't known if the 2019 Renault Kwid carries any structural revisions. In July 2019, ASEAN NCAP awarded the Kwid a zero star crash test rating. Even in May 2016, the entry-level hatchback scored a nought in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP. That said, an updated version that was tested in September 2016 had bagged a 1.5-star rating.

The former outputs 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 68 PS and 91 Nm of torque. Both the motors come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
