Yamaha R3 will be brought to India via CKD channel, pre-orders begin - Report

According to a report from Autocar Professional, the Yamaha R3 will launch in India by the end of this month, and dealerships have begun accepting pre-orders for the sports bike for a minimum booking amount of INR 10,000.

The India-spec Yamaha R3 will launch in the country by the end of this month.

The Yamaha R3 will be brought into India via the CKD route, although it's unclear as to what extent are the components localized. The CKD kits will be manufactured by PT. YIMM (Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing), currently the only company that manufactures the model.

Powering the Yamaha R3 is a 321 cc twin-cylinder engine capable of delivering 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque, through a 6-speed transmission. Noteworthy performance-oriented features include racing-derived forged pistons, carburized conrods and a direct drive camshaft. At 169 kg (wet weight), the R3 gets a 298 mm disc up front and a 220 mm disc at the rear.

Yamaha India could also introduce a naked version of the motorcycle, reported to be called the Yamaha MT-320, in India. A debut is likely to take place at the upcoming Auto Expo scheduled for February 2016.
