IAB Report - Hero Motocorp confirms Dare launch in 2014, Zir in 2015

Hero Motocorp is set to launch the Dare 125 cc in the second half of the 2014-15 fiscal whilst the ZIR 150 cc scooter will be launched in the first half of the 2015-16 fiscal year.

A confirmation from Hero Motocorp backs these timelines. Both scooters were exhibited at the recently concluded Auto Expo.

Hero Dare

The Hero Dare 125 cc scooter should see a late 2014 launch.

The Dare 125 is aimed directly at the Honda Activa 125. Powered by a 124.6 cc engine which develops 9.38 hp at 7,500 rpm and 9.8 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, the commuter features a telescopic hydraulic suspension setup and a single hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. The scooter gets 12- and 10- inch tubeless tyres at the front and the rear respectively. The Dare also gets a 200 mm diameter hydraulic disc brake at the front and 130 mm drum brakes at the rear.

Measuring 1,820 mm in length, 975 mm in width and 1,180 mm in height, the Dare sports a ground clearance of 155 mm, weighs 114 kg and gets a 6 liter fuel tank of which 1.8 liters is the reserve capacity.

The Hero Dare gets a fully digital console with service due and side stand indicators.

According to the company, the Dare's full digital console features a service due and side stand indicators. Dual tone wheels, dual tone body, concealed choke, body painted brake caliper (for the front disc) and full LED taillights are a few other talking points.

Hero ZIR

The ZIR made its debut at the Auto Expo 2014 and will be launched in the second half of the next fiscal year.

The 150 cc Hero ZIR is expected to be launched in 2015.

The ZIR is powered by a 157.1 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder OHC engine that develops 14 hp at 8,500 rpm and peak torque of 12.7 Nm at 7,000 rpm. It gets telescopic hydraulic suspension at the front and adjustable dual shock absorbers at the rear. Both ends get disc brakes, with the front installed with a 225 mm disc and the rear a 220 mm disc.

The ZIR measures just over 2 meters in length, at 2,085 mm long, 745 mm wide, 1,385 mm in height and has a ground clearance of 155 mm. Tipping the scales at 139 kg, the ZIR gets a 9 liter fuel tank that has 2.5 liters in reserve.

The Hero ZIR gets chunky 13" tyres at both ends.

The scooter also sports Hero's Integrated Hydraulic Braking System, dual projector headlamps, daytime running lights, smart phone integration and a step seat.
