Hero's flagship bike was first displayed in Jan 2014.

At a time when the motorcycle sales of even the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country is slowing down after months of steady growth, Autocar India is reporting that Hero Motocorp is set to soon launch its 250 cc offering, the Hero HX250R. Earlier reports suggested that the bike might be launched in June 2015.

The bike is reported to be priced under Rs 1.6 lakh, taking the KTM Duke 200 head on.

Showcased for the first time along with a flurry of models in January last year, the HX 250 R is powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder 249 cc engine that reportedly makes a healthy 31 hp and produces peak torque of 26 Nm. The bike is confirmed having a 6-speed gearbox, 300 mm disc brake at the front and 220 mm disc brake at the rear, that will offer "class leading performance".

Hero says that the bike uses a combined braking system for optimal stopping power and is bolted with an optional ABS system. The HX 250R could very well be seen as the first real product offering after the company's tie-up with Erik Buell Racing. A clear indication is the bike's Geodesic tubular frame and the underseat exhaust.

The HX 250R will also be the company's face at the international marketplace, going by its appearances at EICMA and the AIMExpo.

The company is intent on making the HX250R its international lynchpin as can be seen with the bike's showcase at the EICMA 2014. The fully-faired two-wheeler will also be sold in the US by Erik Buell as its entry-level member.
