Bets big on expansion plans

Hero Motocorp, the world's largest two wheeler maker in terms of volume, is attending the EICMA 2014 with an extensive concept and model lineups.

Hero HX250R

The Hero HX250R is the flagship 250 cc single-cylinder fully-faired sportsbike which is developed with inputs from technical partner EBR of America. The global product has been recently patented in Europe and its presence at EICMA only adds gravity to reports that Hero is eying the old continent seriously.

Power and torque figures stand at 31 bhp and 26 Nm respectively. The HX250R will launch in India by the end of this fiscal year.

Hero Hastur

The Hero Hastur naked sportsbike concept was first showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. Powered by a 620 cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine, the Hastur impresses with 80 PS (78.8 bhp) at 9,600 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. The transmission is a 6-speed unit. The motorcycle is expected to enter production in the future.

Hero ZIR

The Hero ZIR full-sized scooter also made its world premiere at the Auto Expo in February 2014. The gearless two wheeler which is yet to be launched is powered by a 157.1 cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine which pumps out 14.08 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 12.7 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm.

Hero Leap

The Hero Leap is a hybrid automatic scooter which made its first appearance at the Auto Expo in 2012. Almost three years down the line, Hero is not forthcoming with the technical details of the edgy concept.

Hero iON

The Hero iON is a hydrogen fuel-cell powered concept which was one of the plethora of concepts that the Indian automaker unveiled earlier this year. The green two wheeler is powered by wheel rim motors which derive electricity from a new Lithium-Air type battery package. A hydrogen fuel-cell acts as a range extender.

The magnetic levitation motors deliver a claimed acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds, a top-speed of 160 km/h and a range of 300 km.

Hero SimplEcity

The SimplEcity is a lightweight electric bicycle which targets the personal transportation segment. The two wheeler is powered by a 4 KW motor which is supported by a 1 KWh Li-ion battery rated at 51 volts.

The SimplEcity is claimed to accelerate from 0-60 km/h in 9.8 seconds and achieve a top-speed of 60 km/h. It tips the scales at 35 kg.

Hero Karizma R

The Karizma R semi faired motorcycle entered its second generation earlier this year. The motorcycle retains its 223 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which breathes via a carburetor to produce 18.92 bhp and 18.35 Nm of torque. A 6-speed gearbox transfers power.

Hero Karizma ZMR

The Karizma ZMR is the current flagship model in Hero's lineup. While the Karizma R makes do with a carburetor, the ZMR employs fuel injection to produce 19.71 bhp and 19.7 Nm of torque.

Hero Xtreme Sports

The Hero Xtreme Sports is a 150 cc motorcycle with a bikini fairing. Targeted at a younger audience, the Sports variant gets new headlamp, tank and higher engine specs compared to the regular Xtreme. The air-cooled motor is good for 15.2 bhp and 12.8 Nm of torque.

Hero Glamour

The Hero Glamour which is positioned as a premium commuter in the vast Indian two wheeler market is powered by a 124.8 cc air-cooled engine which is available in both carbureted and fuel-injected guise. The motor generates 9 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 10.35 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Hero Splendor Pro Classic

With circular headlamp, pillion seat cover and a low set handlebar, the Splendor Pro Classic is the cheapest cafe racer in the world! Power comes from a punitive 97.2 cc engine which produces 7.7 bhp at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 8.04 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The gearbox is a 4-speed transmission.

Hero HF Deluxe

Based on the same platform as the Splendor Pro, the HF Deluxe is one of the many entry level commuters in Hero's portfolio. The time-proven 97.2 cc engine handles the propulsion duty in partnership with a 4-speed transmission.

The Splendor iSmart is yet another Hero commuter targeted at the value conscious Indian customers. This one features a Start/Stop technology to juice out more mileage from every drop of fuel. The iSmart too is powered by the 97.2 cc engine in the same state of tune as the Splendor.

Hero Pleasure

The Pleasure gearless scooter is powered by a 102 cc air-cooled engine which delivers 6.74 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 7.85 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. The scooter comes with Integrated Braking System (IBS) which deploys the front brake proportionately even if only the rear brake lever is operated by the rider.
