Hero MotoCorp inaugurates its 8th manufacturing plant
Hero MotoCorp has inaugurated its eighth manufacturing facility in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The company has five plants in India, and one each in Colombia and Bangladesh.
The new plant is spread over 600 acres, and has an installed capacity of 1.8 million units. The company will invest INR 1,600 crore in setting up the manufacturing facility. The plant is expected to be operational before December 2019. The new facility will generate 2,000 jobs at the Plant and is expected to generate an additional 10,000 employment opportunities, through the creation of a manufacturing eco-system of vendors and suppliers in the region. The Indian brand will also export to key overseas markets from this plant.

The plant features sustainable manufacturing elements like efficient building envelope, Big Foot air handlers, water and energy optimization. The existing manufacturing facilities of Hero MotoCorp in India are located at Haridwar in Uttarakhand; Gurgaon and Dharuhera in Haryana, Neemrana in Rajasthan and Vadodara in Gujarat. The Company also has two manufacturing facilities at overseas locations - Villa Rica in Colombia, and Jessore in Bangladesh - for the international markets.
The combined installed production capacity of the company is currently 9.2 million units per annum. Hero claims it is the highest in the country. With the additional capacity of the new plant, Hero MotoCorp’s overall capacity will reach 11 million units. This is in line with the brand’s vision of surpassing the landmark 10 million-unit volumes by 2020. The company has over 6,500 touchpoints in the country, at present.
