Honda CBR250RR patented in India, launch unlikely

Honda CBR250RR is the first quarter-litre production motorcycle to get throttle by wire.

A report on Rushlane claims that Honda has patented the Honda CBR250RR in India. Honda India though has repeatedly confirmed that bike will not be coming to India. HMSI at present wants to concentrate on volume churning models and will be introducing two new scooters by March 31, 2018.

Despite being patented, Honda India might not launch the Honda CBR250RR in the country.

The Honda CBR250RR is powered by a 249 cc in-line twin cylinder, DOHC mill coupled to a 6-speed gearbox that makes 38 PS of maximum power and 23 Nm of peak torque. The bike tips the scales at 165 kg and has a true top speed of 167.4 km/h.

Apart from throttle by wire the engine also gets three riding modes (Sport, Comfort and Sport+).

The bike also gets several more premium parts like upside down front forks, reverse backlit digital instrumentation and LED headlamps. These will significantly raise the prices of the bike even if introduced as a CKD. A price tag of around INR 4 lakhs for a quarter-litre motorcycle, will put it at a significant disadvantage.

This is the third new patent filing claimed to have been made by Honda India, the other two being the Honda XRE300 and Honda Scoopy. Honda India has currently removed the single-cylinder Honda CBR250R from the website and is expected to bring it back in BSIV compliant avatar in a few months.

Honda CBR250RR gets a twin-cylinder 249 cc mill capable of producing 38 PS of power and 23 Nm of torque.

The Honda CBR250RR has just been introduced in Japan and sales will begin on May 12, 2017.
