Renault Kaptur SUV teased in Russia, expected in India next year - IAB Report

Will be based on the Duster's platform.

Renault has dropped the teaser of the Renault Captur for emerging markets, which is confirmed to be called as the 'Renault Kaptur'. Slightly editing the teaser image offers a first look at the Captur's Russian cousin, which will be manufactured by Renault Moscow. Note that Renault has only confirmed the name and manufacturing site of the vehicle, and has not issued launch timelines or probable markets.

Compared to the Clio-based Renault Captur, the basic design remains largely identical. However, key elements of the exterior offer slight distinction, such as a wider grille, new bumper with C-shaped LED DRLs, longer wheelbase and new alloy wheel designs.

Past media reports claim that the Renault Kaptur will be based on the Renault Duster's M0 platform, which has been localized in most of the target emerging market. Engine lineup is reported to include the Energy TCe 90 and TCe 120 EDC as petrol options, and Energy dCi 90 and dCi 90 EDC as diesel options. A 5-speed manual or 6-speed EDC automatic could be the transmission options offered, while an AWD system is on the cards for top-end grades.

Although Russia is the launch market for the Kaptur, sources have revealed that car will launch in India in October 2017. Given that the Duster's platform is highly localized in India, the Renault Kaptur can be priced competitively to take on the Mahindra XUV500, VW Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and the Tata Hexa.
