India-spec Yamaha R3 spotted with a saree guard - Spied

Will be locally assembled with kits manufactured in Indonesia.

The Yamaha YZF-R3 will launch in the Indian market on August 11, and will be assembled in India with CKD kits manufactured and shipped by PT. YIMM (Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing).

To keep prices competitive, the Yamaha R3 will have a certain level of component localization, as evidenced by the locally-sourced MRF tyres.

A spyshot of what is believed to be the CKD-spec Yamaha R3 has surfaced online, revealing the small changes made. Firstly, it sports a saree guard - a passive safety feature if the pillion is donning a saree. But it looks rather odd when it's fitted to a sportsbike that has been styled dynamically.

To keep prices competitive, the Yamaha R3 will have a certain level of component localization as evidenced by the locally-sourced MRF Zapper S tyres (Michelin is the supplier to the global spec R3).

The Yamaha R3 packs a 321 cc twin-cylinder engine producing 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque. Noteworthy performance-oriented features include racing-derived forged pistons, carburized connecting rods and a direct drive camshaft. The twin-cylinder engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
