Is the Tata Indica XL CR4 a compact MPV?

We're yet to learn any new developments on the Tata Indica XL CR4 project after the initial round of spyshots. However the latest speculation that's going around the internet is that the Indica XL is a MPV model.

This means it could have three rows of seats (Omni van seating arrangement?) and a flat roof.

How many extended hatchbacks in the world have three rows of seats? After "Life Utility Vehicle" and "Urban Utility Class Vehicle" what else can the marketing men of India coin that explains the Indica XL?

Our friends at Motoroids who had a chance to get very close to the car claim that visually the rear is similar to the hatchback. They blog that the Indica XL will be the cheapest MPV in India, and the interiors are draped in beige.

Tata Motors has camouflaged and tinted windows of the Indica XL test mules from the B-Pillar onwards, leading to questions on what is so secretive about the cabin. The CR4 badge on the front fender is a clear giveaway as to what's lurking under the bonnet. The 1.4L 25kmpl CRDI engine will be on duty for this makeshift MPV.

The Indica is a time tested platform, but Tata Motors must experiment with an updated design language and new shape in the future.
