To be launched in the coming weeks.

The Mahindra Imperio has been teased by the company. The company has confirmed that the new range of pickups will be launched in January 2016.

The Mahindra Imperio is expected to use the same powertrain as the Mahindra Genio.

The Imperio is simply a refurbished and rebranded version of the Mahindra Genio pickup. The latter, launched in 2011, is the load carrying version of the Mahindra Xylo. The current model is offered only in a Double Cab body type (five-seater) in two variants - Standard and VX.

Both Genio variants are powered by the mDI CRDe inline four-cylinder 2.5-litre engine that produces 75 hp, and 220 Nm at 1,400-2,200 rpm. The motor is mated to a five-speed NGT 520 R V1 manual transmission. The payload capacity of the Genio DC is 1,100 kg and that of the Genio DC VX is 1,070 kg.

The Mahindra Imperio will compete with the Isuzu D-Max pickup.

The Mahindra Imperio is expected to carry over the engine and transmission systems from the Genio. The Genio uses 215/70 R15 tubeless tyres on 6Jx15 rims which could also be carried over. The other mechanical features on the Genio are, independent suspension with coil springs and ventilated disc brakes upfront, leaf springs and drum brakes at the rear, double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers, a stabiliser bar, and a power steering. Same/similar parts are expected to be used on the Imperio since it is not an all-new model.
