Auto Shanghai 2013 Live - MG CS Concept bows in

The once very famous British automaker has revealed something really exciting at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. Of course, these days MG’s owned by the Chinese giant SAIC.

The MG CS Concept is an evolution of the Icon Concept unveiled back in 2012 in Beijing. The model is designed by a team lead by the MG global design director Anthony Williams-Kenny. The compact crossover SUV looks like it's far from being production ready and sports quite a few design experiments.

It features multi-faceted 'shard' structure headlights which refract light in different colors. The front also features the trademark MG octagon, finished in chrome. It has suicide doors, twin tailpipes and rear diffuser. The taillights have a tint which matches with that of the rear windscreen, rendering a monolithic feel.

With CS Concept, MG hopes to expand global reach of the brand, while creating a sensation among young, fashion conscious people.

The production model of this concept hopes to take the battle to Nissan Juke and Kia Soul. It will likely be based on the MG5 hatchback's ZP platform platform and powered by a 1.5-litre 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine pumping close to 135 horsepower.

The crossover will join a growing range of MG models which currently comprises MG3, MG5 and MG6 models.
