A new teaser image of the production-spec Tata 45X has revealed that its name starts with the letter ‘A’ and is made of six letters. Several publications are reporting that it would be the 'Altroz'.

Tata Motors will reveal another letter of the name of the production-spec 45X today.

Initially, the Tata 45X was referred to by the codename ‘Tata X451’. Much later into the development, it emerged that it was called even ‘Tata Aquila’ internally.

The production-spec Tata 45X will replace the Tata Bolt and compete with the Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz. Like the Tata Harrier, it will incorporate the IMPACT 2.0 design language. It will sit on a brand-new ‘Advanced Modular Platform (AMP)’, which will form the basis for the brand’s all sub-INR 10 lakh models in the future, including a Hyundai Verna rivaling sedan.

Tata Motors will offer the 45X with a newly developed 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine and even a diesel engine, probably a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. Transmission choices will likely include a dual-clutch automatic unit - a first for a Tata Motors model. The petrol engine will come with mild-hybrid technology. A pure electric variant will follow by the start of 2021.

The production-spec Tata 45X will replace the Tata Bolt and compete with the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Maruti Baleno in the domestic market.

The Tata 45X in production form will have its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that will open on 5 March. Its launch will likely take place in June or July this year, though. Expect prices to start at close to INR 5.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Swiss show this year will stage the world premiere of the pure electric variant in concept form too.
