Launch expected between October and December.

IAB reader Mohit Bhardwaj has spotted a Renault Captur (Renault Kaptur) prototype testing with a Hyundai Creta; possibly the SUV Renault is using as the benchmark. The new SUV is a few months from its launch in India.

The Renault Captur sold in India will have a localisation level of over 80%, it is reported, with production at the Renault-Nissan alliance's factory in Oragadam.

A torn up portion of the Renault Captur's camouflage shows a little bit of its body colour, which looks like a shade of brown. Beside that portion, LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights are seen. The rest of the exterior also looks in line with the internationally sold model. The second spy photo gives a glimpse of the interior, revealing a black dashboard and chrome surround on the HVAC vents. The Captur measures 4,333 mm in length, 1,813 mm in width and 1,613 mm in height, has a wheelbase of 2,673 mm and offers a ground clearance of 205 mm. There's 387 litres of luggage space, expandable to 1,200 litres on folding the rear seats.

The Renault Captur for emerging markets is based on the Renault Duster (Dacia Duster)'s B0/Logan platform, and this will allow Renault India to localise the model substantially. Its production will take place at the Oragadam plant, with over 80% locally sourced components.

The Renault Captur will sell in India likely in two engine models: 1.5-litre H4K petrol and 1.5-litre dCi diesel, with both the units shared with the Duster. In the Dacia-origin model, the four-cylinder petrol engine produces 106 PS and 142 Nm of torque and the four-cylinder diesel engine is available in two versions: 85 PS/200 Nm and 110 PS/245 Nm. As the Captur will sit above the Duster, it is unlikely to get the 85 PS version of the diesel engine. The petrol engine model could have 5-speed manual transmission and CVT choices, while the diesel engine model could have 6-speed manual and 6-speed automated manual units as the transmission choices. Only the diesel model would get an all-wheel drive system, if provided.

The Renault Captur will sell in India likely in two engine models: 1.5-litre H4K petrol and 1.5-litre K9K diesel.

The Renault Captur is reported to go on sale in India during the third quarter of FY2017-18 (October-December 2017) meaning a launch just in time of Diwali. Prices are expected to start at about INR 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
