Renault has confirmed plans to launch four new models in India by 2022. Thierry Bollore, Chief Competitive Officer, Groupe Renault, has confirmed that one of these four models is an EV.

Renault will double its EV range from 4 to 8 models by 2022.

Renault plans to expand its EV range from currently four to eight models by 2022. Also planned for launch during the same period, are 12 electrified vehicles. One of the eight EVs will include a model for India. The company will utilise the new CMF-EV platform for its future EVs falling in the B-, C- or D-segment. For the EV made for India, Renault will likely use the low-cost CMF-A platform.

Bollore said:

India is another key market for business expansion. Building on the success of Kwid, we will launch four models to address additional customers’ needs, and we will do so by leveraging on our existing unique asset, our CMF-A platform in Chennai.

Renault plans to expand the Renault Kwid family from one to four models, and one of these is probably the aforementioned EV. Reports have said that the company will launch a Renault Kwid EV in China. The second model is likely the rumoured sub-4 metre small SUV codenamed Renault HBC. This model, reports say, will ride on the CMF-A+ platform. Another new model Renault has directly confirmed is a sub-4 metre MPV. This development was also revealed by Bollore.

The EV Renault has planned for India is probably a battery-powered variant of the highly successful Renault Kwid.
