Project delayed from the original plan of a 2016 launch.

Car and Driver reports that the India-bound Renault Grand Captur (codename - Renault HHA) will make its Brazilian premiere at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in November. It's expected to arrive in showrooms only from early-2017 in Brazil. Earlier the local media wrote that the car would be on the Brazilian market this year.

The Grand Captur is expected to arrive in showrooms in Brazil from early 2017.

The new Grand Captur (name unconfirmed) will be based on the Renault Duster platform, thus lowering part costs. It will sport a slightly distinctive styling to better differentiate from its European cousin, and have a larger footprint to accommodate a third row of seat.

The Grand Captur could offer engine options such as the Energy TCe 90 and TCe 120 EDC as petrol options, and Energy dCi 90 and dCi 90 EDC as diesel options. A 5-speed manual or 6-speed EDC automatic could be the transmission options offered. In Brazil the car will come with a 143 hp 2.0L engine and will be priced at 80,000 reals (INR 13.9 lakhs)

Unlike the Euro spec Renault Captur sold in Europe which is based on the Clio IV platform, the Grand Captur will ride on the Renault Duster platform.

As for the Indian spec model, it could pack the dCi 110 offered in the Renault Duster, with an option of the Easy-R 6-speed AMT gearbox for a lower maintenance cost as compared to the EDC dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car will be aimed squarely at the Mahindra XUV500, slotting above the Renault Duster.

The global premiere or the launch market of the Renault Grand Captur is likely to be in Russia as the car is reported to enter production in the country this year.
