Renault to introduce a "premium small car" positioned above Kwid - Report
Likely to be based on the highly localised CMF-A platform.
ET Auto reports that Renault will introduce a compact SUV and a "premium small car" positioned above the Renault Kwid in a bid to expand the portfolio. It is currently in the development stage and could be ready in two years.
This development falls in line with reports of Renault mulling over expanding the CMF-A portfolio in India. The body shape of the "premium small car" is not mentioned, but we reckon that the vehicle could be a premium hatchback to replace the Renault Pulse, and take on the Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20.
As development is in the initial stages, concrete details on the project are scarce. With the highly-localised CMF-A platform, the Kwid-based premium compact car could get competitive pricing while offering an excellent feature list and a fuel efficient petrol lineup to lure car buyers; similar to the Renault Kwid’s success formula. It could also have an SUV's styling, with good ground clearance and plastic body armour.

Renault's next big product launch is the Duster-based Renault Captur SUV. Arriving during the festival season, it will slot above or beside the Duster and help Renault further penetrate the premium SUV segment.
