Expected to launch within 12 months from now.

It is no secret that Renault India will launch the Renault Kaptur next calendar year, however, as many publications including Indian Autos Blog have reported in the past, the Kaptur will not be a three-row 7-seat SUV; it will remain a 5-seat SUV, a person in the know confirmed to Indian Autos Blog.

The Renault Kaptur will use the 1.5L dCi engine and will offer 6MT and 6AT transmissions.

The person said -

The Kaptur will be a 5-seat offering. However, the positioning will be above the Renault Duster. We will offer customers the option of a more premium alternative to the Duster, and in future, we will reduce Duster prices by a bit.

The person confirmed that the Kaptur will be powered by the 1.5-liter dCi four-cylinder diesel engine doing duty on the Renault Duster. It will likely offer 110 PS and 245 Nm of torque, and will be paired to 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Renault could use its EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) gearbox instead of the low-cost automated manual transmission (AMT) which is available on the Duster, in a bid to offer buyers a better drive experience.

Like the Duster, the Renault Kaptur for India, codenamed 'HHA', would offer 2WD and 4WD options. The exterior will resemble the European-spec Renault Captur, but underneath, it is based on the same B0 platform as the Renault Duster.

The current Duster 4x4 RxZ tops out at INR 14.8 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Mumbai. Once the Kaptur is launched, prices of the Duster will be reduced by a small margin, though prices of the Kaptur are expected to extend until INR 15-16 lakhs, ex-Showroom.

When asked, a Renault India spokesperson told Indian Autos Blog that the company does not comment on future plans and products.
