Launched first in Russia, the Kaptur is basically the emerging-market version of the smaller Renault Captur, as can be seen by its styling. The Kaptur is based on the Duster's M0 platform, which has been localized in several emerging markets, including India.

It is slightly larger than the Captur, measuring 4,333 mm long, 1,813 mm wide, 1,613 mm in height, and has a 2,674 mm-long wheelbase. Inside, the Kaptur has a 387 litre boot space, which can be extended to 1,200 liters with the 60:40 split rear seats folded down.

Reports suggest that the Kaptur will be equipped with a 2.0L Flex Fuel engine sourced from the Renault Duster, which produces 143 hp on gasoline and 148 hp on ethanol. It will be paired to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, and can be equipped with a 4WD system. It will also have the multilink rear suspension from the Duster 4WD.
