Renault Koleos successor teased during presentation - Report

To be revealed in early 2016.

At a conference hosted by Dongfeng-Renault, the French company's Chinese joint venture, one of the presentation slides had revealed that, along with Renault Kadjar, the mass production of another new SUV will commence in September 2016.

The new SUV will be sold alongside the Renault Kadjar, where the latter will go into mass production in January 2016.

The Chinese media say that the new SUV (code: Renault HZJ) is very likely to be the successor to the aging and slow selling Renault Koleos. Laurens van den Acker, Senior Vice President, Corporate Design, Renault, had IAB that the next generation model will look completely different and will be a "true D-segment crossover". He also confirmed that the new Koleos will be revealed in early 2016. The slide shows the date 09/2016 (September 2016), which could connote either the start of production or the Chinese revealing date.

The next gen Renault Koleos will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance's Common Module Family (CMF) platform. On the powertrain front, it is expected to source engines from the Nissan X-Trail, which packs 2.0- and 2.5-liter petrol engines and a 1.6-liter diesel engine.

Design wise, the new D-segment crossover will retire the boxy and heavily sculpted body for a smoother and more-curvier design that will borrow cues for the Renault Kadjar. It's unclear if the crossover will offer a 5+2 seating option.

The design of the Renault Koleos's successor will draw design cues from the Renault Kadjar.

For the Indian market, the successor to the Renault Koleos could serve as the company's flagship product, and compete with premium SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and upcoming second generation VW Tiguan. If Renault India does consider launching the product, it will likely follow the CKD channel, like the Fluence and Koleos.
