The 1.0L engine underneath is an evolution of the all new 0.8 liter engine in the current Renault Kwid.

This falls inline with what Mr Gerard Detourbet, Alliance Global Vice President, Alliance A-Segment Development Unit, had told IndianAutosBlog at the world premiere of the Renault Kwid. He stated that an “evolution” of the Kwid’s all-new 800 cc three-cylinder engine (featured in the current model) will be seen. He also confirmed development plans for the AMT.

In the Indian market, the Renault Kwid 1L will rival the Maruti Alto K10 and K10 AMT respectively. A recent report stated that the Kwid 1L will be equipped with ABS and dual front airbags as well. Presently, a driver airbag is optional on the top-end variant of the Kwid though ABS is unavailable.
