Renault Kwid Brazilian TVC unsuspectingly attacks the VW Up! [Video]

Is pitched to the Brazilian market as a compact SUV.

To drum up anticipation for the Kwid's launch, Renault Brazil has released a couple of advertisements that unsuspectingly attacks the VW Up!, its closest rival. Shortly after these videos went live, Renault removed them from their channel, perhaps after VW's legal department sent them a short message.

The video mocks the ground clearance and cabin space of the VW Up!. For legal reasons, the model featured is simply a white hatchback with no badges, but viewers can clearly make out what it is. It highlights the Kwid's high ground clearance, spacious cabin and SUV-ish characteristics, which are not usually found in the A-Segment of cars. Although not revealed, the ground clearance is likely to be slightly over the India-made Renault Kwid's 180 mm clearance.

The Kwid will also be one of the feature-packed cars in the segment, with equipment like a 7-inch MEDIANAV display, analogue speedometer and tachometer dials flanking a digital multi-info display, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, four airbags and ABS as standard, and a rear defogger with wiper. The Brazilian Kwid is 140 kg heavier than the model made in India, owing to structural reinforcements with increased usage of high-strength steel. Expect the Brazil-spec Kwid to fare much better than the single-star Renault Kwid (Indian version) in the LatinNCAP crash test.
