Bookings have crossed the 70,000 figure.

According to a report on RushLane, deliveries of the Renault Kwid will see a delay owing to production stoppage at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Chennai on account of the heavy rains the city received last week. Chennai, which hosts the manufacturing facilities of various car makers and numerous auto component suppliers, received its heaviest rains in a century bringing the city to a standstill.

The Kwid is currently offered with a 0.8L petrol engine and a 5MT.

The report states that waiting periods of the Kwid may extend upto 10 months in certain cities, and that bookings have crossed the 70,000 figure. Positioned in the entry segment, as a rival for the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, the Kwid has already garnered 10 percent market share, a report stated last month.

The small car also helped Renault India post its highest ever sales, in the month of November 2015. Renault India sold 7,819 cars last month, a 144 percent increase in the y-o-y period.

An AMT is expected on the Kwid sometime next year.

The Kwid is currently powered by a 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. While Renault have ruled out a diesel variant on the Kwid, it has confirmed a more powerful petrol engine and an automated manual transmission (AMT), which is expected to launch sometime next year.
