Renault Kwid vs Maruti Alto 800 vs Hyundai Eon - Comparo

The Renault Kwid rivals the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon chiefly, and the following is a spec-sheet comparison of these cars.

The Kwid is the longest in overall length and wheelbase, and the widest among the bunch, which should translate into a roomy cabin. Despite having a class-leading ground clearance of 180 mm, the Kwid is actually the shortest (in height) car here, though it redeems itself with a best-in-class 300 liter boot.

All cars here are powered by a three-cylinder 0.8-liter engine, but the Maruti Alto 800 puts out the lowest power and torque outputs. The Kwid and the Eon are evenly matched at 54 PS and about 72-74 Nm of torque. All cars get a 5-speed manual transmission, though the Kwid will also get an automated manual transmission in the future.

However, thanks to the lightest kerb weight of 660 kg, the Kwid sports the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class, and naturally, the highest fuel efficiency as well. At 25.17 km/l, the Kwid is India's most fuel efficient petrol car.

The Alto 800 is priced between INR 2.52 - 3.47 lakhs, while the Eon costs INR 3.1 - 4.13 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. Renault has clearly targeted Maruti, with the base variant of the Kwid costing only INR 4,000 more than the Alto 800. It should be noted that the top-end Kwid gets a touchscreen MediaNAV system, which is unavailable on competitors.
