Thanks to Renault Kwid, Renault India becomes 4th largest carmaker in April
Sales increased by 211 percent compared to last year.
Owing to the runaway success of the Renault Kwid, Renault India has overtaken the sales figures of Honda Cars India last month. While the Japanese manufacturer sold 10,982 units, Renault managed to push out 12,426 units in the same month. As a result, Renault India became the fourth largest car maker in the country last month, behind Maruti-Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. and Mahindra & Mahindra.
This is an increase of 211 percent as compared to Renault's sales figures from April 2015, where they only sold 4,001 units. In the coming months, Renault is expected to maintain the momentum as they fulfill the large number of bookings received for the Kwid. The company has increased the production rate to nearly 10,000 units per month by introducing a nightshift, which has reduced the waiting period from six months to four months.
Renault India also plans on introducing the Kwid 1.0-liter and the Kwid AMT variants later in the calendar year. Showcased at the Auto Expo last month, it will appeal to people looking for more power, safety features, and easy drivability from the hatchback.

The Renault Kwid will face real competition when the Datsun redi-GO goes on sale. Expected to be priced lower than the Kwid, the redi-GO will ride on the same CMF-A platform and source the 0.8-liter SCe engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
