Will get an optional driver-side airbag.
A reader of MotorBeam snapped these images of the Renault Kwid on test near Krishnagiri, ahead of its launch announced to take place in the festive season of this year (September-November period).
Based on the all-new CMF-A platform, the Kwid measures 3.68 meters in length and 1.58 meters in width. When launched it will compete against the likes of the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon, and will attract the first time buyer.
Renault has announced that the Kwid will be powered by an all-new 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with "best-in-class" fuel efficiency. This all-new petrol engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) is also in the offing. According to reports, this unit will deliver a class-leading power output of 57 bhp.
While Renault could introduce a more powerful 1.0-liter variant on the Kwid later on its lifecycle, the French car major ruled out a diesel variant for the small car.
Notable features on the hatchback include foglights, body cladding, a 7-inch touchscreen Media NAV system, a digital instrument cluster, front power windows and an optional driver-side airbag.
