Renault Kwid to develop 57 bhp - Report
Will launch in the September-November period.
A Team-BHP news snippet claims that the Renault Kwid's 0.8-liter engine will develop 57 bhp. The brand-new three-cylinder engine is part of a new family, and the car's engineering boss Gerard Detourbet said that about 50 percent of the car's development cost was absorbed by it.
Described as a "simple engine", the mileage of the vehicle, Renault said, "would be among the best in India."
The company did not provide the technical specifications at the Kwid's world premiere on May 20, but the report says that the car would have low gearing for a non-sluggish driving performance. It adds that Renault is currently optimizing the automatic transmission, which will come with a rotary shifter, integrated into the center console, similar to the driving mode selector dial on the Renault Duster.
The Kwid will launch an attack on the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon, with an overall length of 3.68 meters and an overall width of 1.58 meters. It is based on the CMF-A platform, but unlike its competitors, it is designed to look like a crossover with high ground clearance and extra body enrichments.

Renault India has confirmed that the car will launch in the September-November period with the top-end model getting 18 cm wide media/navigation 'Media Nav' system, foglamp, digital instrument cluster and central locking. About 98 percent of the car is localized and assembled at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai.
