Renault Scala variants, Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo discontinued - Report

With sales numbers dipping and hitting record lows, models across the market are beginning to be discontinued. Renault and Toyota, CarWale reports, have resorted to discontinuation of variants in their already limited line up.

The Toyota Etios Liva Sportivo has been discontinued, mainly due to poor sales response.

Renault is reported to be stopping production of the base RxE and automatic variants of the Renault Scala sedan. Only the RxL petrol and diesel variants, along with the top-end RxZ diesel, will be sold. The Scala has been selling in very meagre numbers for the French manufacturer, with August 2015 sales clocked at a paltry 30 units, compared to the equally low 38 units it had sold in August 2014.

While a continued presence in the segment will be crucial to maintain a premium image, the Scala as such is as good as a dead weight for the company.

The Renault Scala's AT variant, along with the base-petrol RxE variant, has been discontinued from the market.

Meanwhile, Toyota has discontinued the Sportivo editions of the Toyota Etios Liva hatchback, reports the site. The Etios Liva Sportivo was available with two engine options. While a powerful 1.5-liter petrol engine made 90 bhp for the hatchback, the company retained the diesel engine from the standard model giving the car just visual embellishments.

The discontinuation makes business sense, as the Etios Liva has found more traction with the tour operators segment as opposed to the personal segment it was initially targeted at.
