Renault India could launch a sub-4m sedan, 7-seat MPV, compact SUV on CMF-A platform - Report

Renault India "has a lot of projects."

Talking to Economic Times, Renault's senior vice-president and chairman for Africa-Middle-East-India, Bernard Cambier, has revealed a tentative future product lineup of the French brand.

The CMF-A platform could generate all new Renault products that are aimed at the sub-INR 10 lakh segment.

Talking about derivatives on the CMF-A platform, the base of the Renault Kwid which has been localized to 98 percent, he said, "On this platform we can make 5-7 different car types or body styles; there are a lot of projects under discussion. We can have a sedan (sub-4m), seven seater MPV and even a compact SUV."

He hinted that the portfolio could serve customers end-to-end in the next 5 years, and not being profitable was not an option. "Come 2020, it will be much more; we will have a lineup of cars to build our volumes," he continued.

Talking about the market share ambitions, he said the company was aiming for a 5 percent share in India by 2017. Currently Renault has a market share of about 2 percent, since its relaunch in May 2011 with the Fluence.

The second compact SUV could be positioned between the Kwid and Duster.

Based on spyshots and reports this year, Renault's short-term plans includes adding variants and refreshes. The Lodgy will receive a taxi market variant next month, the Duster will get a new skin and auto gearbox option, the Pulse and Scala will undergo a mid-cycle change, and the Kwid will be diversified with an AMT variant and a new top of the line 1.0L petrol variant.
