5 March 2019 -
The Tata Altroz has made its world debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The B-segment hatchback is the production version of the Tata 45X concept.
Up front, the Tata Altroz features a wide grille, sleek headlamps, a slimmer humanity line, and a beefy bumper that accommodates large fog lamps. Showcased in a metallic golden shade, the new model fairly resembles the 45X concept. On the sides, the Altroz features a rising beltline, stylish dual-tone 5-spoke alloy wheels, black-coloured door-mounted ORVMs, a quarter glass at front and rear, and pillar-mounted door handles. At the rear, it has sleek wrap-around taillights, black trim on the boot lid and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Other visual elements include a bold character line that runs across the length of the new model and a black-painted roof. The Tata Altroz is the company's second production model to be designed as per its Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. Its interior has a little bit similar to that of the Harrier. The dashboard features a floating-type touchscreen infotainment unit and several golden accents. Like in the Harrier, there's a semi-digital instrument cluster. The design of the steering wheel seems to be an evolution of that of the C-SUV.
The Tata Altroz is based on the in-house developed Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture. Engine options will likely include an all-new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged oil burner from the Nexon. The former will be available with mild-hybrid technology and maybe even a dual-clutch automatic transmission - both firsts for a production Tata Motors model.

The Tata Altroz will launch in the middle of the current calendar year, probably in the June-July period. It will replace the slow-selling Bolt and lock horns with the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. Its prices are expected to start between INR 5-5.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
