Base Tata Altroz with steel wheels spotted on test

As Tata Motors continues testing the Altroz ahead of its expected launch in July, a fresh batch of spy shots have surfaced online, courtesy CarWale. The latest images show a basic configuration of the upcoming hatchback featuring steel wheels, likely 15 inches in diameter.

Tata Altroz underpins an in-house developed Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture and is the second model after the Tata Harrier to follow the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy.

In addition to alloy wheels, the base Tata Altroz seen here misses out on LED tail lamps, touchscreen infotainment system and a semi-digital instrument cluster, as per CarWale. Projector headlamps also won't be offered in the entry-level configuration. In other recent developments, rumour has it that the Tata Altroz may come with only a diesel engine at launch. A petrol engine option would follow later.

ArrayThe Tata Altroz diesel is said to be powered by a detuned (93 PS/210 Nm) version of the Tata Nexon's 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine (110 PS/250 Nm). A 5-speed transmission will be standard. The petrol engine model, reported to be following later, will employ a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mill good for 75 kW (102 PS) and 140 Nm of torque. This one too will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. There have been talks of an all-new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine featuring a mild-hybrid system optionally and a dual-clutch automatic transmission in the past, but there are no fresh developments on the same.

The Tata Altroz had its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
