Tata Altroz to be available with only a manual transmission at launch - Report
Semi-automatic and automatic transmissions are increasingly becoming popular in India even in small cars these days. However, the usual norm is to launch a new model with a manual transmission and introduce a semi-automatic/automatic transmission at a later stage. According to credible Team-BHP forum member RavenAvi, Tata Motors plans to do the same in case of the Altroz.
The Tata Altroz is said to be available with Tata Tiago's 1.2L petrol engine which delivers 85 PS of maximum power and 114 Nm of peak torque, a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine (102 PS/140 Nm) and a 91.25 PS 1.5L diesel engine. The turbocharged engines will be borrowed from the Tata Nexon. A 5-speed manual transmission is expected to be standard. Old reports have suggested that a newly-developed dual-clutch automatic transmission could be introduced at a later stage.
The Altroz is the second car from Tata Motors after the Harrier created using the IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy. It is the first model underpinned by the company's Advanced Modular Platform (Alfa-Arc), which will spawn a number of more sub-4 metre models in the future. On the outside, it will be kitted with features like projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically operated ORVMs with turn indicators and LED tail lamps. Inside, a semi-digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity will be among the key features.

The Tata Altroz will likely be introduced later this month, with the launch following soon. It will compete with the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz. A sedan version was planned initially, but according to recent reports, a premium B-SUV will be launched instead.
