At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show this month, Tata Motors unveiled the Buzzard - Geneva Edition. According to a new report from the Financial Express, the company will likely launch it in India as the ‘Cassini’. The name is famous from space exploration as it was the craft that helped scientists learn more about Saturn's rings.

While the Tata Harrier/Tata Buzzard Sport is a 5-seat C-SUV, the Tata Buzzard/Tata Cassini is a 7-seat C-SUV.

Introducing the Buzzard - Geneva Edition this month, Tata Motors had clearly stated “Buzzard is the product name coined for GIMS 2019 only” and that the name with which it will sell the model in India will be announced closer to the commercial launch.

Last month, Tata Motors and Tata Sons filed for several new trademarks for future Tata Motors models, including ‘Kassin’, ‘Cassini’, ‘Shikra’ and ‘Timero’. IAB understands that the ‘Cassini’ trademark application has been accepted and the trademark has been advertised.

The Tata Buzzard/Tata Cassini measures 4,661 mm in length, 1,894 mm in width and 1,786 mm in height. It has a 2,741 mm wheelbase. Compared to the Tata Harrier, it is 63 mm longer and 80 mm taller. The width and wheelbase are the same.

Under the hood, reports say that there’s a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine. Likely called ‘Kryotec170’, this version produces 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Tata Motors will source the latter, a conventional torque converter unit, from Hyundai. It will offer this option in the Harrier also at a later stage.
