Pratap Bose: Tata H2X Concept 70-80% ready to go into production
The Tata H2X Concept was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show recently. The concept model will spawn an A-segment SUV (codename: X445) that is expected to make its public debut at the Auto Expo 2020 in February next year. Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors has told Times Drive that the show car is about 70-80% ready to go into production.
The Tata H2X Concept has a few dramatic styling bits and advanced technologies which will either be toned down or be skipped for the production version. These amplified elements include flared wheel arches, the fighter jet-like steering wheel, 'Coanda' AC vents and the dual-screen setup on the dashboard. The road-ready model will have bigger headlamps, functional upper grille and lower grille, smaller wheels, and may such changes that are typically seen when a show car evolves into a production model. The Tata 45X Concept which spawned the Tata Altroz is the most recent example of that.
The Tata H2X Concept has been designed as per the company's Impact 2.0 philosophy. Its front-end seems highly inspired by the Harrier and features similar high-set LED DRLs and a tri-arrow pattern. In profile, the show car features flared wheel arches, blacked-out pillars and large alloy wheels. The boxy silhouette and the squarish proportions lend the new model an imposing look. Highlights of the interior include twin 10.2-inch screens that display instrumentation and the infotainment features, aircraft-inspired steering wheel, removable Bluetooth speakers on the doors and application of the company's tri-arrow motif on the tactile surfaces.
Tata Motors has said that the H2X previews a sub-compact SUV that will offer “exemplary performance, future-ready connectivity and outstanding interior room”. Powering the production-spec model will be the same newly-developed 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that will propel the Tata Altroz.
